How is the update from Version 5 to Version 6 realised? Which steps are required?
Following steps are necessary to perform an update from Version 5 to Version 6:
1. Installing Cordaware bestinformed® Version 6.
2. By using the feature "Read data from Version 5", all existing data from the bestinformed® 5-database will be migrated.
3. Depending on your data-structure, additional configuration on roles and rights could be necessary.
Which operating systems are supported in Version 6?
Windows, Ubuntu, Mac OS X and CentOS. Additionally, you can install bestinformed® 6 as a Docker Image.
Is it possible for existing customers to update to Version 6 for free or do I have to purchase my licences again?
For customers under our Support & Software Assurance, an update is free of charge.
Can Cordaware bestinformed® Version 6 be operated in terminalserver environments, like Citrix?
Yes, bestinformed® can be operated on thinclients and as published application.
Are the latest versions of encryption mechanisms supported?
Yes, Version 6 has been optimized for latest encryption mechanisms.
Is it possible to run an Infoserver of Version 6 in combination with Infoclients of Version 5?
Yes, an upgrade of all clients is not necessary immediately. However, certain new features can only be used with the new client. To run the client under Windows 7, Version 5 (or higher) is necessary.
Is the old license-key compatible with Version 6?
No, you will receive a new license-key upon request.
How do I apply the new licence key of Version 6?
The new licence key can be applied within the bestinformed® 6 web administration. Navigate to System -> Licence and paste the content of your licence key (bestinformed6.regkey) into the text area and confirm and apply it clicking on „Upload licence“.
Which hardware requirements are required for the optimal use of Cordaware bestinformed® 6?
Required hardware for operating a bestinformed® 6 environment depends on the amount of clients connected to a single server. The absolute minimmum required to handle up to 1 000 client connections is a 1 GHz CPU, 128 MB RAM and 1 GB of disk space.
Though we highly recommend using a system with at least a DualCore CPU with 2 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 8 GB of disk space, which can handle up to 10 000 client connections.

Can the bestinformed® 6 Infoserver be virtualized?
Yes, the Infoserver system of Cordaware bestinformed® 6 can be operated in virtualized environments.

How do we upgrade to Version 5?
For performing the upgrade to version 5, you have to download the installation file bestinformed.exe from our download page and run it. Existing records will be adopted automatically. Before performing the upgrade we recommend to create a database backup. Further information regarding serverupdates can be found in the documentation of Version 4 in chapter "Server Update and Relocation". After the installation was completed you have to stop the Infoserver and copy the new licence-key for Version 5 to the installation directory. (The download includes a 30 days full version) Afterwards restart the server again. For upgrading the clients, we recommend to use the integrated Cordaware Autoupdate function, however every other popular software distribution can be used as well.
We are Cordaware Support customers. Can we upgrade to version 5 for free?
Yes, for Cordaware Support customers (customers, who have an active Support and Software Assurance), the upgrade to version 5 is free of charge.
Is it possible to encrypt the connection between Infoserver and Infoclient?
Yes, if required a SSL protected connection between Server and Client is possible.
Will the update cause a loss of my recorded data?
No, your data will be adopted. But with the new version of the internal database a downgrade isn´t possible.
Is the Infoclient able to run on other, not Microsoft-based, operating systems?
Yes, an enhanced version of the Javaclient is available on our download page.
From which Version is Cordaware bestinformed® compatible with Windows 8, Windwos 10, Windows Server 2012 and on Windows Core Server?
From bestinformed® Version 5.3.
Is it possible to run an Infoserver of Version 5 in combination with Infoclients of Version 4?
Yes, an upgrade of all clients is not compulsory. However, certain new features can only be used with the new client. To run the client under Windows 7, version 5 is necessary.
Is it possible to integrate the existing data (groups, templates etc.) from bestinformed® 4 without additional effort?
Yes, the existing structure will be automatically applied when exchanging the server.
Is the old license-key compatible with Version 5?
No, you will receive a new license-key.
Which hardware requirements are required for the optimal use of Cordaware bestinformed® 5?
In general, a simple hardware-setup will be sufficient, for example Pentium III with 256 MB RAM.
For client numbers larger than 1000, we recommend to use a common server-system, e.g. Pentium IV CPU and 1 GB RAM, for the optimal performance of the Infoserver. If the number of client-connections exceeds 50 000, we recommend to use additional network interface cards.
Where can I find the documentation for Cordaware bestinformed®?
The documentation is available after download and installation of the software. You can access the documentation file from the "Help" item in the bestinformed® menu.
Is the Cordaware bestinformed® technology comparable to netsend or RSS systems?
No, bestinformed® is conceptionally and architecturally designed to provide high-priority messages to any number of clients, individually, group-specifically and as fast as possible. These and other requirements for business critical real-time communication can not be met by the technologies mentioned above.
Is it necessary to install a piece of software in the client?
Yes, for meeting the requirements of highly performant real-time communication, the bestinformed® Infoclient is installed as a service on the client.
Which operating systems are currently supported?
bestinformed® consists of two major components, Infoserver and Infoclient. The Infoserver-system is currently able to run on Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Free BSD, Linux (Ubuntu, etc.), Mac OS X and much more. Please note that the Infoserver system can only be run on 64-bit systems!
Is there a possibility to use bestinformed® on Linux machines?
Currently, we offer an enhanced version of the Javaclient, which can be downloaded from our download page.
How big is the network-load of the client-server communication?
The distribution of an Info needs approximately 10 kb, the network-load generally is considered as harmless.
Is there permanent network-traffic between client and server?
No, because of the push-method, network-traffic is generated only when distributing new messages.
Does the client access the internet during the Autoupdate process?
No, the new version is provided internally on the Infoserver. Furthermore, the bandwidth can be regulated upon demand and alternative servers can be defined.
Is Cordaware bestinformed® Windows 10 compatible?
Yes, Cordaware bestinformed® is Windows 10 compatible. However, version 5.3 or higher is needed.
Can Cordaware bestinformed® be operated on terminalserver-farms, like e.g. Citrix?
Yes, bestinformed® can be operated smoothly with thinclients and published application.
How many clients can be addressed at reasonable pace?
By using the Cordaware bestinformed® Grid architecture and a suitable hardware and network setup, any number of clients can be addressed within minutes.
What are the benefits of being a Cordaware Support Customer?
Next to the standard support-services, Cordaware Support customers receive all new full versions of bestinformed® at no extra charge and can ask for customization.
Does bestinformed® support multiuser processing?
